Our history
Being the first commercial bank among the banks existing today, Expressbank OJSC was established on 21 June 1989 and for a long time operated under the name of Azerneqliyyatbank OJSC. Our bank operates on the basis of a license issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 30 December 1992. By the Decision of the General Meeting of Shareholders of the Bank dated 01 February 2010, Azerneqliyyatbank OJSC was renamed Expressbank OJSC. The corresponding change in the Articles of Association passed state registration on 4 March 2010.
Today, Expressbank is a friendly team consisting of more than 700 qualified employees. Our Bank attaches great importance to the professional development of each employee. Each member of our team is always happy and proud of the successes of both clients and colleagues.
Expressbank is a company that provides its customers with a wide range of services in convenient way, using the most advanced practices and innovations and putting customer satisfaction first!
We also attach great importance to corporate social responsibility projects and regularly hold various social events. In addition to visiting lonely elderly people, families of war veterans and orphanages, we also organize gift campaigns.
Our Bank is a member of the international payment systems Mastercard International and Visa International, as well as the international interbank payment system SWIFT. We regularly expand our comprehensive cooperation with well-known financial institutions, banks and funds around the world.
Our international rating
In October 2023, the international rating agency Fitch Ratings raised the outlook for the rating of Expressbank from Stable to B Positive. This rating is considered a high result among the country’s banks.

- 4/12/2010 - Expressbank was awarded the national prize as the winner in the Successful Rebranding nomination of 2010 in the Business of the Azeri Business Award, established by the Business Time Magazine.
- 25/5/2017 - Expressbank became the winner in the nomination The Bank that has Increased the Number of MasterCard Platinum, Black Edition & World Elite Cards the Most.
- 25/5/2017 - Expressbank ranked second in the nomination The Bank that has Increased the Number of Gold & Standard Cards the Most.
- 21/12/2018 - Expressbank became the winner in the ABA Member Applying Innovative Payment Solutions nomination for the project implemented jointly with the Zolotaya Korona urgent money transfer system.
- 21/12/2018 - Expressbank was awarded the Azerbaijan Banking Association award in the Corporate Social Responsibility nomination.
- 28/2/2019 - Expressbank took first place in the Leading Bank for Contactless Payment Cards nomination for the total number of contactless payments within the country made with plastic cards through POS terminals, in the direction of developing non-cash payments, applying innovative payments, expanding e-banking and e-commerce of the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Banking Association for 2018. It ranked second in the Leading Bank in Contactless Infrastructure of POS Terminals nomination and third in the Leading Bank in the Development of E-Commerce nomination.
- For 2019 - Expressbank was awarded by the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan in the Corporate Social Responsibility, The Most Active Supporter of Financial Literacy nominations.
- 7/4/2020 - Expressbank was announced the winner by the Central Bank in the Leading Bank in Contactless Payments nomination for the total number of contactless payments within the country made with plastic cards through a POS terminal in 2019.
- For 2020 - Expressbank was awarded by the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan in the Corporate Social Responsibility, The Most Active Supporter of Education, Promotion of Non-Cash Payments nominations.
- At the event of the members of the expert group on payment systems and digital banking of the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan on 22-23 January 2022, Expressbank was awarded for the successful implementation of the digital payment platform Visa B2B Connect by the world leader in digital payments Visa.
- In May 2022, the Fitch Ratings Agency highly appreciated the activities of Expressbank and ed the Bank’s rating at the level of B with a Stable outlook.
- In June 2022, at the Fintex Finance and Technology Summit 2022, Expressbank was awarded a nomination for successful cooperation and support.
- In August 2022, Expressbank joined the Apple Pay payment system.
- In November 2022, Expressbank joined the Google Pay™ payment system.
- In May 2023, Expressbank received an award from the Visa International Payment System for increasing the number of Premium Visa Card orders.
